As a Blizzard fan, I’m excited for the launch of the company’s upcoming digital card game called Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. As for when exactly Blizzard is going to release the game, no official announcement has been made so far. But when it does become ready for the public, expect it to be a huge hit.
A work in progress
With the public release date yet to be announced, Hearthstone is currently in closed beta. Invitations are available via the Battle.net website.
Intended only for online play and to emulate the look and feel of physical card games, Hearthstone is currently under development. So far, works on animations and graphical effects are nearing completion. There’s also interactive boards available, although this feature is not entirely influential in winning the game. It’s just for fun and entertainment.
Though planned as a free download, Hearthstone comes with in-game purchases to support its development. Purchases (using either gold or real-money) is needed for Arena mode, which differs from the normal gameplay because of having up to four of a card instead of the usual restriction of just two. Booster packs are also available for purchase. Note that whatever the prices displayed (for in-game items being sold in the store) during the beta phase may differ from the actual prices on public release.
Hearthstone beta release date
As mentioned above, Hearthstone beta is already available for download, but only if you receive a game key (sent through an email invitation by Blizzard). The release date for open beta is expected to be this coming December 2013. Over a million players have already tried the game and are so far enjoying what it offers.
Hearthstone won’t be heading for just the Windows and Mac platform. The iPad, as well as tablets running on Android, will also have the game sometime in the first half of 2014. Cross-platform play has been tested and planned, although there’s no indication if this feature will be ready at launch.
